Madrid Engagement Photos

Madrid is the biggest city in Spain, yet it doesn’t feel overwhelming. It’s easy to get around by foot, the metro, or a cab. Barrios, aka neighborhoods, make up the city, and you can explore the different mini-cultures associated with each one. Barrios really personalize Madrid engagement photos. Each barrio reflects different personalities. Cherie and Austin were visiting Spain from Hong Kong, and I was so excited to create a couples’ session with them in Malasaña. That’s my absolute favorite neighborhood in Madrid!

Malasaña Photoshoot

Spaniards and travelers alike consider Malasaña one of the trendiest areas in the city. It has Mercado de San Ildefonso which is less crowded and touristy than the famous Mercado de San Miguel. The neighborhood has so many great coffee shops and restaurants, whether you’re vegan or you enjoy a nice burger. In addition, the buildings are incredibly charming. You get a sense of Spain’s architecture with some extra character to it. I really enjoyed showing Cherie and Austin around. We did a Malasaña photoshoot at sunrise so we could catch the best light. Spain is such a late starting country, so we pretty much had the city to ourselves. We sacrificed a few hours of sleep, but it was definitely worth it!

What to Wear

I give my couples a style guide that explains how to avoid wearing something that’s uncomfortable or may be too distracting in photos. It’s important to be prepared. You don’t want to focus on your clothes the whole session. It will keep you from being present in the moment. Madrid in the spring has chilly mornings. The couple wanted to wear dressy clothes that weren’t super warm. So they brought jackets and bundled up when we were walking in-between photos. It’s a simple solution, but it made all the difference! If you’re interested in setting up your own city photo session, shoot me a message here! Whether it’s Madrid, Barcelona, or Seville, I’m always ready to meet you in your travels and make some magic together!
