Best Places to Visit in Spain
Spain has so much variety and beauty packed into one country! With all the options of great cities here, it can be hard to choose where to go. I decided to put together a guide with the best places to visit in Spain. This will help you decide which places are the best fit for your trip.
Canary Islands: You can fly into Lanzarote for a rural trip with gorgeous views. A short drive from the airport, you’ll see incredible views of the ocean and the other-worldly scenery. Check out this travel blog with great Lanzarote suggestions! From Lanzarote, you can take a ferry to La Graciosa, a tiny Island perfect for a day trip. There you can rent paddle boards, soak up the sun at the beach, hike, and grab a drink at a beach-side bar.
Mallorca: Mallorca has stunning mountains, quaint little Spanish towns, and great beaches. Palma de Mallorca is cute, but a little touristy. I’d recommend renting a car and exploring outside of Palma. Head to Colls dels Reis in the North for your fill of the mountains. Next, hit the beach at Port de Sa Calobra. You can head back to Palma for the widest selection of restaurants. Overall, the island is small, and you can drive to the opposite end in about an hour.
Ibiza: Ibiza has a reputation for partying, but it doesn’t have to be a wild trip. This Spanish Island has a lot more to offer than clubs. Venture into Ibiza’s Old Town during your trip. Then rent a Vespa and drive out to the countryside. Shop at the market in Las Dalias that sells handmade goods or ride to Cala Mastella, a beach away from the party scene, where you can snorkel.
Top Cities to Visit in Spain:
Seville is such a charming city! You can take a bike tour to see the sights and learn the history. See by Bikes is a great tour company with fun guides, and it didn’t feel too touristy. Make sure to see the gardens and catch an authentic Flamenco show. In addition, there are several cute little coffee shops for all you coffee-lovers out there.
Barcelona has amazing architecture, and the city is fun and lively! Two major spots to see are La Sagrada Familia and Park Guell. Walk down the famous street of Las Ramblas, relax at the beach, and catch a futbol game at the Camp Nou stadium or a local bar. There’s plenty of great restaurants and clubs to choose from there too!
Madrid is the capital of Spain, and it’s rich with history and culture. You can visit the famous Prado museum and the royal palace. Once you’ve had your fill of history, stroll through Retiro park. Next, I recommend trying tapas at Mercado de San Miguel. Lastly, enjoy cocktails at a rooftop bar with incredible views of the city at sunset. However, if you’re not ready to call it a night, Madrid has a great nightlife. Malasana is a really trendy barrio (aka neighborhood) worth exploring day or night. Also, check out El Rastro, a flea market in La Latina on Sunday mornings.
In Valencia, I recommend going to the City of Arts and Sciences, Plaza de Virgin, and the Umbracle. It’s really unique and looks like it belongs in space. First, grab coffee and a delicious dessert at Dulche de Leche. Next hit the beach. You can take the public bus to a great beach called Malvarosa. Additionally, the signature drink there is Agua de Valencia. So make sure to try it on your visit!
Other Great Cities
Bilbao: City in Northern Spain with access to the beach and great hikes (the famous Guggenheim museum is here)
Alicante: City on the beach (Go hike at Serra Gelada)
Granada: City in Southern Spain (Visit the Alhambra at sunset)
